Ex-Egypt security officials slapped with travel ban

A number of former interior ministry officials were banned from travel on Wednesday after being accused of illegally acquiring some LE1.6 billion (roughly $240.5 million) worth of ministry funds, Al-Ahram's Arabic-language news website reported.

Thirteen former police officers and 16 former civilian interior ministry employees face charges of corruption dating from the period between 2006 and 2011, Al-Ahram added.

Those banned from travel include Ahmed Diaa El-Din, former governor of the Upper Egyptian Minya governorate, and Abdel-Rahim Qenawi, former head of Egypt's General Security Department.
