Salafist Abu-Ismail condemns anti-Morsi 'Rebel' campaign

Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail, founder of the Salafist Raya Party, has condemned the anti-Morsi 'Rebel' campaign, claiming it has no legal or constitutional basis.

'Rebel' is a grassroots movement to withdraw confidence from President Mohamed Morsi and force him to call early presidential elections by collecting 15 million signatures by 30 June.

The campaign, which was launched on 1 May, has collected 2 million signatures so far.

Abu-Ismail told Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr satellite channel on Sunday that during his presidential bid he collected double the number of signatures collected by 'Rebel' so far.

Abu-Ismail collected 150,000 signatures backing his bid to run for president in 2012 - a number that exceeded all other presidential hopefuls.

He was later disqualified from the race after it was discovered that his mother has dual US-Egyptian nationality.
