Health Ministry: 11 dead and 516 injured at rallies on Wednesday

The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that 11 people had died and 516 were injured at rallies across Egypt on Wednesday.

In a statement published on Thursday, the ministry said one person died in Cairo, four in Alexandria, two in Minya and four in the Matruh governorate.
 
Of the injured, 154 have been released from hospital after having received treatment, while 362 remained in hospitals receiving treatment.
 
Opponents and supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi clashed on Wednesday night following the armed forces announcement that ousted him.
 
The Muslim Brotherhood released a statement on Thursday claiming that 23 supporters of Morsi had been killed following the armed forces’ announcement on Wednesday. The Brotherhood accused the army and police of firing live ammunition at Morsi’s supporters around Egypt. The Brotherhood statement also accused “Tamarod thugs” of assisting security forces in Alexandria.
 
The health ministry reported deaths and injuries in Cairo, Alexandria, Fayoum, Minya, Damietta, Dakhalia, Mansoura and Matruh.
