Egyptian ambassador discusses transition with Turkish president

Turkish President Abdullah Gül met with Egypt's Ambassador to Ankara Abdel-Rahman Salaheddin on Monday, state news agency MENA reports.

Commissioned by Egypt's interim president Adly Mansour, Salaheddin and Gül discussed Egypt's transitional roadmap following the  army's popularly backed overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.

The two-hour meeting was part of extensive talks between the ambassador and Turkish government officials, party leaders and businesspeople over recent events in the Arab world's most populous country.

The ambassador conveyed a verbal message from Egypt's interim leader regarding the two countries' strong strategic and historical ties, MENA said.

There has been strong "anti-coup" rhetoric in Turkey since Morsi's ouster.

Turkey's Islamist Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Endogen has strongly condemned the overthrow of Morsi, a member the Muslim Brotherhood, which he described as an "illegitimate" military coup.

Erdogan said on Sunday that the only president he recognises in Egypt is Morsi.
