Source: Army eyes new terrorist havens in Sinai

Army and police forces have continued their intensified military operations in the Sinai Peninsula against extremist elements since the overthrow of former president Hosni Mubarak.

A military source told Al-Masry Al-Youm in a special statement that the army and police have not attacked peaceful civilians but have only targeted those who have assaulted the troops.

The source added that the military is still taking count of the number of militants who were reportedly killed in an air raid on Saturday, predicting their number to increase due to the numerous havens that were stricken.

The source urged Sinai citizens to repel militants out of residential areas in order for the troops to arrest or kill them, noting that army forces have been ordered to fire at those who carry weapons in the streets of Sinai.

The same source noted that the military is continuing to destroy underground tunnels in Rafah, in North Sinai, adding that all tunnels have been put under control, including the ones that have not yet been destroyed.

The source revealed that interrogations of militants arrested several days ago have helped detect a large number of terrorist havens in Sinai, noting that army commando forces are preparing to raid them within the next few days.
