Egypt army vows strict curfew enforcement
Egypt’s armed forces have pledged to act with "utmost firmness" against whoever violates the curfew imposed by the interim government on Wednesday in 14 Egyptian governorates, including Cairo.
 
The month-long curfew came into force at 9pm and will run until 6am as a response to the escalating violence sweeping the country after Egypt's police and military stormed two s of deposed president MohamedMorsiearlier in the day. In a statement released on Wednesday, Egyptian army spokesman Ahmed Ali urged a halt to individual and vehicle movement during curfew hours.
 
Ali called upon people to abide by instructions when stopped by police or army forces. These include showing identifications when needed, vowing to strictly enforce the curfew.
 
The interim government's curfew goes under effect for Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Suez, Ismailia, Assiut, Sohag, Beni Suef, Minya, Beheira, South Sinai, North Sinai, Fayoum and Qena.
 
According to a cabinet media consultant, exceptions to the nighttime curfew include journalists and media personnel, whose work requires presence in the street, alongside travellers bound for the airport.
