Bani Warkan was considered a place for Jama'a al-Islamiya and criminal elements to hole up, with suspects accused of breaking and entering public buildings as well as setting them ablaze, a security source said on Sunday.
Both sides exchanged fire during the storming operation. 13 suspects were arrested while arms and ammunition were also seized in the raid.
The weapons were originally seized from Adwa police station which was attacked on 14 August, authorities said.
