Activists arrested during Khaled Said retrial

Security forces on Tuesday arrested six activists outside Alexandria criminal court, where the retrial of alleged killers of Khaled Said was taking place.

The activists were arrested for insulting the Interior Ministry after chanting against police officers.

The Alexandria court meanwhile adjourned the retrial of the two policemen charged with killing Said until 2 December to hear the testimonies of medical officials.

The 6 April Movement claimed police arrested the group's spokesperson and another 12 activists during the protest, aimed at expressing solidarity with Said who was killed in broad daylight by security forces in Sidi Gaber in 2010.

Said's murder became a symbol of police brutality and is widely believed to have helped trigger the 25 January revolution. A medical examiner’s report following his death also sparked widespread outrage after murder and torture were ruled out as causes of death. Initial medical reports claimed Said had died of asphyxiation after swallowing a bag of marijuana to hide it from police.
