Feud between 2 Egyptian Christian families kills 5
An Egyptian security official says a feud between two Coptic Christian families in the country's south has left five people dead and nine wounded.

The official says the two families were feuding over a piece of land. He says they exchanged gunfire on Wednesday in the city of Malawi in the province of Minya, about 220 kilometers (137 miles) south of Cairo.

The official says three of the wounded are in critical condition. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Coptic Christians make up nearly 10 percent of Egypt's 90 million-strong population.

Land and other feuds are common in rural Egypt but escalated after the ouster of Egypt's autocratic President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 and the subsequent breakdown of security.
