MB Guidance Bureau elections may be cancelled, MB sources

CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood is likely to suspend the elections of its Guidance Bureau amid the current political turmoil in Egypt, MB’s legal team member Mohamed Touson told Youm7, Thursday.

“Most of the MB leaders are imprisoned, but this does not hinder holding the elections, but the current conditions are not appropriate for this process,” Touson added.

On Wednesday, MB leader Mohamed Ali Bishr announced that the MB’S Guidance Bureau election is scheduled to be held in December.

Meanwhile, MB sources ruled out the possibility of running this election, unless the political crisis is ended and the group’s leaders are released, and those who fled abroad return.

The Brotherhood is counting on resolving the crisis ahead of the Guidance Bureau elections, the sources added, pointing out that the suspension of elections is possible due to the difficulty in gathering members of the MB’S Guidance Council in one place, in addition to the continuity of security pursuits.
