President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi invited recently elected French president Emmanuel Macron in a first phone call after congratulating him on taking office, according to a presidency statement. Al-Sisi wished Macron success in carrying out his new tasks and stated his willingness to work with him during the coming period in order to continue to promote Egyptian-French relations at various levels and to consolidate the partnership between the two countries and the close cooperation existing between them in all fields.
Egypt’s population officially reached 93 million on Monday evening, according to a statement from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Tuesday. The new official population count brings the total number of Egyptians worldwide to 101 million, including 8 million living abroad. In its statement, CAPMAS said that the population meter shows the number of Egyptians in Egypt at 93,044,937.
Education Minister Tarek Shawki announced on Monday that international school fees will be increased by 14 percent for the next school year 2017-2018; and another 7 percent yearly, starting from the year after that. Quarantine authorities at Cairo Airport declared a state of emergency after news of the cholera epidemic in Yemen. Mubarak-era Interior Minister Habib al-Adly escaped from his home a few hours before security forces went to arrest him to implement a court verdict sentencing him to seven years in prison on corruption charges, sources with Giza Security Directorate said. Giza Security Directorate received the executive form of the court verdict, said the sources. Security authorities are currently hunting Adly like they would any fugitive.
