Remittances from Egyptians abroad rose 20.4 percent year-on-year in September to $1.8 billion, the central bank said on Sunday. The figure means remittances grew by 1.5 percent in the first quarter of the 2018/2019 financial year to $5.9 billion.

Egypt s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed illegal immigration and ways to combat it in Addis Ababa, Wednesday, with EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Egyptian foreign ministry said. The two officials discussed means of cooperation to address illegal immigration and Cairo s vision on the issue that includes social and development aspects as well as political instability and poverty, said foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafiz.

Egypt s Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly decided Tuesday to establish a permanent higher committee on human rights, MENA state news agency reported. The new committee will be tasked to deal with human rights issues and respond to allegations made against Egypt in this regard.

Egypt’s Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Nabila Makram, urged Egyptians not to respond to statements by Kuwaiti MP Safa al-Hashem, who criticized Makram for her recent statement that “the dignity of the Egyptian and, rather, the dignity of Egyptian women is a red line.” Makram’s comments were made following an incident where an Egyptian woman working in Kuwait, named Fatima, was assaulted by five women in Salmiya.

Egypt s parliament spokesman has denounced recent comments made by Kuwaiti MP Safaa Al-Hashem about Egyptian Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram Ebeid, stressing that the special relationship between the two countries should not be affected by such comments. Al-Hashem made derogatory comments about Ebeid after the Egyptian minister denounced a recent assault on an Egyptian woman in Kuwait by a group of Kuwaiti women.

Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is travelling on Tuesday to Ethiopia s capital Addis Ababa to participate in the 11th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union (AU), which will discuss institutional and financial reform of the union, a statement by the foreign ministry read. Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek al-Mulla announced that his ministry planning to attract about $10 billion worth of new investments during the current fiscal year 2018-2019, in order to search and explore for oil and gas and further development of discovered fields. The Suez Canal’s projected revenues this year increased to $6 billion, compared with $5.5 billion last year, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said. In a statement to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Mamish attributed the increase in revenues to the new Suez Canal, which has reduced the time required for the passage of ships through the canal from 22 hours to 11 hours.

During the activities of the China International Import Expo, Madbouli asserted that the government selected CSCEC to carry out the construction of the Finance and Business district because of its capabilities of achieving the works with high quality. Minister of Commerce and Industry Amr Nassar and senior CSCEC officials also attended the meeting. Madbouli pointed out that the business district will have 20 towers, including the highest tower in Africa at a height of 345 meters, adding that this project is a major civilizational shift and will provide thousands of jobs.
