Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has said that Egypt wants notorious Egyptian terrorist leader Hesham El-Ashmawi to be returned to his country to be held accountable for his crimes. El-Ashmawi, a former Egyptian army officer and leader of an Al-Qaeda offshoot, was captured earlier this week in Libya.

The Central Bank of Egypt said on Thursday it agreed to enter into a "new repurchase transaction" of $3.8 billion with a consortium of international banks including Citigroup, Credit Suisse AG, Deutsche Bank AG, First Abu Dhabi Bank PJSC and HSBC. ICBC Standard Bank, JPMorgan Securities, Natixis and Nomura International are also part of the consortium involved in the loan, it said in a press release on its website.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has said the Wednesday tripartite cooperation summit between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus aims to "take practical steps" to boost cooperation between the three countries. A report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has said that Egypt has the potential to generate up to 53 percent of its total energy from renewable energy sources by 2035. Petroleum Minister Tarek Al-Molla announced this week that Egypt will no longer import liquefied natural gas (LNG), saving the government the LE3 billion it earmarked annually to meet local demands. The savings are due, in large measure, to the Zohr gas field which began output in December 2017. Egypt sold EGP 904 million ($50.6 million) worth of three- and seven-year treasury bonds on Monday after cancelling sales for four successive weeks, the central bank said. Egypts finance ministry intends to auction treasury bonds at a total value of EGP 498.750 billion during the second quarter (October-December) of the fiscal year 2018-2019. In an online statement on Sunday, the ministry said it will be selling 91, 182, 273 and 364-day bonds at EGP 125.250 billion, EGP 123.5 billion, EGP 110.750 billion and EGP 121.5 billion respectively.

Egyptian Preident Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York on Thursday to discuss efforts to revive the Middle East peace process, a presidential spokesman said. During the talks, El-Sisi stressed the "importance of resuming negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides with a view to reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and relevant international reference points," El-Sisi s spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
