The Egyptian cabinet approved on Wednesday a 214 million euro deal with the European Investment Bank (EIB) aimed at improving sanitation services and the environment for the people living in the Nile Delta region. The deal will be used to finance the depollution of the 69 km-long Kitchener Drain, the main agriculture drainage canal spanning across the governorates of Kafr El-Sheikh, Gharbiya and Daqahliya in the Nile Delta region, and which is known to be one of the country s most severely polluted canals.

Egypt will host mid-April 2019 the 12th round of the Egyptian-Russian joint committee for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar said during extended talks with Russian Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov in Moscow. The meetings will be held under the auspices of the trade ministers of both countries and will take up means of bolstering cooperation between Egypt and Russia in the fields of trade, industry, health, tourism, education, information technology, customs, agriculture, transportation, energy and investment.

Egypt s Minister of Military Production Mohamed El-Assar attended on Tuesday in Cairo the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt s National Organisation for Military Production and the Slovenian company Iskra to cooperate in the field of developing infrastructure to distribute energy. Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will visit Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on Wednesday to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest in light of the importance Egypt attaches to strengthening relations with its partners in Eastern Europe, according to a statement by Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov visited Egypt last October, when the two countries agreed to form a joint committee headed by the foreign ministers of the two nations.

Remittances from Egyptians abroad rose 20.4 percent year-on-year in September to $1.8 billion, the central bank said on Sunday. The figure means remittances grew by 1.5 percent in the first quarter of the 2018/2019 financial year to $5.9 billion.

Egypt s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has issued a decision to rename El-Nahda Square in Giza after late police brigadier Satea Nomani, who died on Wednesday in London while receiving medical treatment for injuries suffered in clashes with Muslim brotherhood supporters in 2013. Nomani died at St Mary Hospital in London, where he was being treated for serious wounds he suffered during the dispersal of a sit-in supporting Islamist president Mohamed Morsi at El-Nahda Square in August 2013.

Egypt s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed illegal immigration and ways to combat it in Addis Ababa, Wednesday, with EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Egyptian foreign ministry said. The two officials discussed means of cooperation to address illegal immigration and Cairo s vision on the issue that includes social and development aspects as well as political instability and poverty, said foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafiz.

Egypt s Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly decided Tuesday to establish a permanent higher committee on human rights, MENA state news agency reported. The new committee will be tasked to deal with human rights issues and respond to allegations made against Egypt in this regard.

Egypt’s Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Nabila Makram, urged Egyptians not to respond to statements by Kuwaiti MP Safa al-Hashem, who criticized Makram for her recent statement that “the dignity of the Egyptian and, rather, the dignity of Egyptian women is a red line.” Makram’s comments were made following an incident where an Egyptian woman working in Kuwait, named Fatima, was assaulted by five women in Salmiya.

Egypt s parliament spokesman has denounced recent comments made by Kuwaiti MP Safaa Al-Hashem about Egyptian Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram Ebeid, stressing that the special relationship between the two countries should not be affected by such comments. Al-Hashem made derogatory comments about Ebeid after the Egyptian minister denounced a recent assault on an Egyptian woman in Kuwait by a group of Kuwaiti women.

Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is travelling on Tuesday to Ethiopia s capital Addis Ababa to participate in the 11th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union (AU), which will discuss institutional and financial reform of the union, a statement by the foreign ministry read. In an official statement, Egypt s foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said Shoukry will attend the 20th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council on 14 - 15 November and the 11th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union on 17 - 18 November.

Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek al-Mulla announced that his ministry planning to attract about $10 billion worth of new investments during the current fiscal year 2018-2019, in order to search and explore for oil and gas and further development of discovered fields. Mulla said in a statement Saturday that demand from major international companies represents a clear message on the confidence of foreign companies in improving the investment climate in Egypt, due to the reforms implemented.

The Suez Canal’s projected revenues this year increased to $6 billion, compared with $5.5 billion last year, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said. In a statement to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Mamish attributed the increase in revenues to the new Suez Canal, which has reduced the time required for the passage of ships through the canal from 22 hours to 11 hours.
