Morocco s Raja Casablanca mission arrived in Cairo on Monday night ahead of their game against Zamalek in the second leg of the African Champions League semifinal scheduled for Wednesday. The second leg was initially scheduled for 24 October, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) postponed the game to 1 November after more than a dozen Raja players tested positive for COVID-19, before delaying the game for a second time to 4 November upon the request of Egyptian authorities. "We will be ready for the game on all levels. It will be a tense encounter and will witness many surprises," he added. Raja have not played any games since losing the first leg on 18 October, when Zamalek s Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki headed the winner in the first half in an empty Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. The winner of Wednesday s clash will face Ahly in the final at Alexandria s Borg El-Arab Stadium on 27 November.

Gareth Bale came off the bench to head the winner for Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday, his first goal since returning to the club from Real Madrid. Bale has yet to start in the Premier League for Spurs as he works his way back to full match fitness and was delighted to have got off the mark. “It’s a great feeling. Argentina soccer great Diego Maradona is self-isolating after one of his bodyguards displayed symptoms of COVID-19, the country’s state-run news agency Telam reported on Tuesday. Maradona, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986, began isolating at his home in Argentina on Tuesday after last coming in contact with the guard on the weekend. The 59-year-old is not displaying symptoms and will do a COVID-19 screening on Thursday, local media reported. Earlier this month, Maradona had tested negative for COVID-19 after coming in contact with one of his players who had contracted the virus. Maradona is currently the coach of Argentine top division side Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, who are scheduled to play Patronato on Friday. He has suffered a string of health issues in recent years and remains at high risk of the coronavirus complications should he be infected.

Juventus should not require a slap to wake up even if the atmosphere at grounds is soporific, coach Andrea Pirlo said after the Serie A champions stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Verona on Sunday. It tough against them but we could have done better.” Verona coach Ivan Juric was disappointed at his team’s performance in the closing stages. “We did really well for an hour but then we fell away, we didn’t have the right energy,” said the Croatian who got into an angry altercation with the Juve bench at the final whistle. “There were some insults and when I am insulted, I react,” he said. “But it stops there.”

They had to do it this time without injured defensive talisman Virgil van Dijk and at the end of a demanding week in which they drew 2-2 at Everton and ground out a 1-0 win over Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League. “A tough week obviously -- a lot of games, a lot of minutes, tough opponents, hard-fighting opponents,” Klopp said. “(We) won the two matches after the Merseyside derby, so really pleased with that, obviously. “We didn’t score (the third goal) so the game stayed open and they had their moments, but we defended well with a big heart. And so I liked it.” Jota has now scored in his first two home league games since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Incredibly, since netting against Arsenal on Sept. 28, the Portuguese has played in eight games for club and country. Klopp said there was more to come from the 23-year-old. “He is still adapting. Manchester City s Raheem Sterling said social media companies have the technology to tackle online abuse but questioned whether they have the will to do so. Sterling was responding to the results of a Professional Footballers Association (PFA) report https://www.thepfa.com/news/2020/10/21/pfa-charity-ai-research-study into messages sent on Twitter to 44 current and former players in England. The report said that during the six weeks of "Project Restart", data science company Signify Group analysed 825,515 tweets directed at the players, identifying over 3,000 explicitly abusive messages. As much as 56% of all discriminatory abuse identified during the study was racist, with 43% of Premier League players in the group experiencing targeted and explicitly racist abuse. "I don t know how many times I need to say this, but football and the social media platforms need to step up, show real leadership and take proper action in tackling online abuse," Sterling told British media. "The technology is there to make a difference, but I m increasingly questioning if there is the will." The study, also backed by anti-discrimination body Kick It Out, called for stakeholders to fund a centralised artificial intelligence-driven system to monitor abusive users across social media. It recommended prosecutions, stadium bans and suspensions for abusers. "The recommendations we have announced today can make a real impact, but it needs everyone to work together to achieve change," PFA head of equalities Simone Pound said. In response to the study, a Twitter representative told Sky Sports the platform strongly condemned racist behaviour. "We want to reiterate that abusive and hateful conduct has no place on our service and we will continue to take swift action on the minority that try to undermine the conversation for the majority," the representative said. Facebook said it had recently partnered with Kick it Out on its Take A Stand campaign. "We ve also introduced technology to give people more control over their experience, including a setting for public figures to prevent people they don t know from messaging them," a Facebook representative said.

Moroccan football team Raja has been ordered to be quarantined for a week due to coronavirus infections, with the country’s health ministry deciding late Tuesday to abandon the team travelling to Egypt, leaving Saturday’s anticipated match against Zamalek in doubt. The Moroccan side was due to be hosted by the Whites at Cairo International Stadium in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal. Zamalek earned a precious first-leg advantage, beating the hosts 1-0 on Sunday. Just 24 hours after the first leg, Raja officially announced that six players newly tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of infected players to eight, besides two from the technical staff. The Premier League said on Monday that eight people had returned positive results in its latest round of COVID-19 tests conducted on players and staff last week. The league said the individuals who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus would now self-isolate for 10 days. "The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 12 October and Sunday 18 October, 1,575 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, there were eight new positive tests," the Premier League said in a statement here. A total of 42 people have tested positive for the virus in seven rounds of testing since the new campaign began on Sept. 12. There have been more than 750,000 COVID-19 infections and over 43,000 deaths in the United Kingdom, according to a Reuters tally.

Zamalek could have doubled their advantage on at least a couple of occasions after the break, with Bencharki masterminding their pacy counter attacks as Raja poured forward en masse to score an equaliser. The visitors also survived a late onslaught to claim a crucial win as they seek to reach the final for the first time since 2016. On Saturday, record eight-time winners Ahly defeated Raja s rivals Wydad 2-0 at the same Mohammed V Stadium, with the Egyptian duo now looking overwhelming favourites to reach the final of Africa s blue-riband club competition. Egypt s Ahly moved within touching distance of reaching the African Champions League final for the third time in four years, producing an impressive away display to down Morocco s Wydad 2-0 in the semi-final first leg on Saturday. All Zamalek s players have tested negative for COVID-19 after undergoing PCR tests ahead of the game against Morocco s Raga in the semifinal of the CAF Champions League on Sunday. The White Knights are scheduled to face Morocco s Raja in the first leg of the competition s semis on Sunday, with the second leg scheduled to take place six days later in Cairo. "All Zamalek crew underwent PCR tests in Morocco and they tested negative for Coronavirus," read a statement on the club s official website. "Bencharki will join the team s regular trainings on Thursday and he is fit for the game," the statement added. Masry’s Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi has announced his departure from the Port Said based club to join rivals Pyramids FC during the current summer transfer window. “I will miss Masry club a lot. English Football League chairman Rick Parry has praised Liverpool and Manchester United for "showing leadership" after they came up with a radical plan to overhaul the Premier League that he believes will benefit the whole game. The controversial "Project Big Picture" includes proposals to reduce the Premier League from 20 to 18 teams and abolish the League Cup and Community Shield. The club finishing 16th in the Premier League would join the Championship play-offs while there would be greater voting rights for the nine longest-serving Premier League clubs. Under the plan, EFL clubs would receive an immediate £250 million ($325 million) rescue package and a 25 percent future annual share of Premier League revenue. Football in England has been played behind closed doors since March because of the coronavirus pandemic and lower-league clubs are facing financial calamity, with fans barred from stadiums. Parry insists the proposals -- which would be the biggest shake-up of English football in a generation -- offer the best chance of securing the future of clubs outside the top flight but they have been deeply divisive. The Premier League said the plans would have a "damaging impact on the whole game" while the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport criticised "backroom deals". - Liverpool, Man Utd praised - But Parry, a former chief executive of Liverpool and the Premier League, was fulsome in his praise for Liverpool and United, England s two most successful clubs. "It is two of our great clubs showing leadership when it is needed, exercising great responsibility, and from the EFL point of view it is making our clubs sustainable and bridging the gap between the top of the Championship and and the bottom of the Premier League," he said. "The cherry on the icing on the cake is the prospect of a £250 million rescue fund immediately, which does of course help, but the principal part of the story is the biggest reset since the formation of the Premier League which, all being well, will set up the pyramid for the next 25 years. "The proposal is designed for the greater good of English football." Parry said the Premier League has had plenty of opportunity to come up with plans of their own. "They could have come up with a plan like this at any time," he added. "How long has it taken to get a short-term rescue package even to the starting gate? Months." "The message from Liverpool and Manchester United and their ownership is they actually genuinely do care about the pyramid," Parry added. "This hasn t been rushed together, this isn t a Covid plan, it has been years in the thinking and months in the making." Salford co-owner and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said "there is too much good in this plan to dismiss it". "There are parts of the proposal that require negotiation," he said. "Let s get round the table please PL/EFL/FA/FSF (supporters group). If it suits 9 PL clubs and maybe 72 EFL clubs then let s work with the other 11." But speaking on Sky News on Monday, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: "If we keep having these backroom deals and all these other things going on we will have to look again at the underlying governance of football." The Football Supporters Association said it "notes the report with grave concern" and added: "As football s most important stakeholders, it is crucial that fans are consulted and involved in the game s decision-making."

All eyes will be on the game this Sunday between Egyptian Premier League champions Ahly and Pyramids FC, who are fighting to secure their runner-up place in the teams table. A game of musical chairs is running between Pyramids FC and Zamalek as the latter lost two points after the goalless draw with Wadi Degla last week placing them at third place with only one point behind Pyramids FC. Ahly consider the game against Pyramids a crucial preparatory match for the Red Devils, against Morocco s Wydad, in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League which is yet to take place on 17, October. "The CAF Champions League games will be different from the games we played in the Egyptian league but Ahly are always ready for all competitions," Ahly s South African coach Pitso Mosimane said. The game against Pyramids FC is also considered quite the test for newly appointed South African coach Pitso Mosimane who managed to beat Arab Contractors 1-0 and Enppi 3-0 respectively in the league since his arrival. "Ahly players performed well during their match against Enppi as the back line introduced a cement defence alongside the superb performance of striker Marawan Mohsen who scored twice," said Mosimane at the post game s press conference. "I am doing my best to please Ahly fans by introducing a superb performance as well as positive results," he added. Since the goalless draw with Wadi Degla and losing the runner-up place to Pyramids, some Zamalek supporters took to social media and decided to support the team s arch rivals Ahly in their mission against Pyramids FC. The Red Devils welcome back the services of winger Ahmed El-Sheikh and Senegalese striker Aliou Badji after missing Enppi game due to injuries. Each team will be able to register up to four foreign players in their squad for the 2020/21 season but that number will be trimmed the following season, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Wednesday. The EFA has kept the number unchanged for the new season, with each team also allowed to register an additional fifth player providing that he is Palestinian, Syrian, Tunisian, Moroccan, Algerian or Libyan. The EFA said fewer foreigners will be allowed to join league clubs in the following season, although it did not specify any number. Teams are still prohibited from signing any foreign goalkeepers, the EFA wrote in its regulations for the 2020/21 season. A significant change from the past seasons is that coaches who unilaterally terminate their deals with the clubs they manage will not be permitted to take charge of another team in the same season. A coach who is sacked will be allowed to take charge of one more team during the course of the season, the EFA added. Teams will be allowed to loan out up to five players every season, a decision that is likely to affect Cairo duo Ahly and Zamalek, who usually prefer to send most of their fringe players out on loan so they can gain first-team experience. The EFA also set dates for the summer transfer window, which will run from 10 October to 4 November, a few months later than usual after the league was suspended for five months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has played down reports linking him with a move to Barcelona. The 29-year-old was reported to be one of Ronald Koeman’s primary targets in the close season but Wijnaldum said there was “nothing concrete”. “I don’t think it was that serious,” he said. “Otherwise you would have read a bit more, or more would have happened. “The way it looks now, I will stay in Liverpool. My contract is valid for another 10 months and that can change. You never know in football.” Wijnaldum has played in all four of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season.

A spectacular strike from Ahmed "Zizo" El-Sayed in the 115th minute gave Zamalek a 2-1 victory against Smouha on Monday to reach the Egypt Cup quarter-finals. The Whites, who won six out of the past seven titles, will face FC Masr in November. After a scoreless and dour first half, Smouha turned on the style in the 54th minute when Salah Mohsen scored one of the best goals of the season, cutting from the left and producing a magnificent curling finish into the top corner. Second half substitute Emam Ashour grabbed the equaliser after intercepting a low cross from Zizo in the area and his deflected shot wrongfooted the keeper in the 81st minute. Going into extra time, Zamalek attacked en masse and got what they deserved with an outstanding shot from Zizo after a solo display in the 114th minute.
