An inspection committee from the health ministry, the chamber of hotels, governorate authorities and the tourism ministry has reviewed the hotels to ensure they are following the health guidelines laid out by the Egyptian government and the World Health Organization.

The Coptic Orthodox Church in Alexandria announced a new reading competition during the curfew under the auspices of Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See. The participants have to read 7 books and pass an online electronic exam and winners will receive financial rewards from His Holiness Pope Tawadros. HG Bishop Bakhoum of Sohag participated with Islamic scholars yesterday at the ceremony organized by the University of Sohag to present the prize of tolerance and religious dialogue, which was granted to the researcher Dr. Mahmoud Farraj, who presented a research entitled ‘Religious Tolerance, the Icon of Communication between the Past and Present, Sohag as a Model. The award bears the name of the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar, the Honorable Late Imam Dr. Syed Tantawi, and the prize is funded by Coptic businessman Najib Sawiris.

Father Ruice Markos, the priest of the Church of the Virgin and St. George in the Gabriel District in Alexandria, said that God saved the church from fire after a Molotov Cocktail was thrown at the church. The extremists man was arrested and the Molotov Cocktil was broken one meter away from the church building, which is considered a miracle that saved the Church.

The financial contributions from the churches to the Diocese, which Is approximately $23,000 per month, has been stopped to assist the cashflow of the parishes. Further reductions to church monthly contributions are being assessed 11. The local clerical council will continue to function under the guidance of HG Bishop Domadious of the Diocese of Six October. 12. The official spokesman of the Coptic Orthodox Church said on his Facebook page that a man threw a Molotov cocktail at the church of St. Mary Church in Ghobrial, Alexandria on Saturday May 16th. The attack caused no harm for people or the building and it was recorded by surveillance cameras of the church. Police have arrested the man and he is currently under investigation.

For the first time St. Dimiana Monastery held its annual celebrations on the occasion of St. Demiana feast without congregation. The celebration was headed by HG Bishop Marcos of Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh and the head of the monastery on the eve of the feast, with the participation of some of the priests of the diocese and nuns of the monastery. Thousands of Copts used to attend the celebrations, but they were unable to attend the feast this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Pope Tawadros II presided over the funeral of Abba Ruice, the general Bishop who died today at the age of 81 after spending 57 years as monk and 43 years as bishop. The funeral was attended by many bishops, members of the Holy Synod. He was born on October 15, 1939, and was ordained a monk in the Syriac monastery in Wadi Al-Natroun on October 30, 1963. He was ordained a general bishop on May 29, 1977.
