Tens of churches burned on 14 August 2013, looted by MB supporters

For long hours and right after the start of the disperse of the sit-ins Churches, houses, monasteries, orphanages, schools, businesses belong to Copts were attacked in 9 governorates causing panic, losses and destruction for no reason and no crimes they committed except being Christians in a country that one of its political factions is waging a religious war and commit violence to achieve political gains.

Maspero Youth Union has established monitoring and support units to monitor and document attacks against Copts. 

Attacks took place in 9 Egyptian cities as follows:

MENYA:

Churches in three districts were targeted (Menya, DirMawass, Bani Mazar) as follows:

1- In Delga village:

Saint Ebram in Delga village which was previously attacked on July 4th, after general Sessi first statement.

- Saint Mary and Saint Ebram church/monastery which is an ancient church.

-Saint Georges church, the bishop's resting house, and a child daycare in the church were burned and looted

- 20 houses belongs to Copts were looted and attacked

-A Copt (Eskandar Toss) from the village was shot dead in his house during the attack

-Burning of Eslah church - Delga Dir Mawass

-the attack and burning of the house of father Angelous of Saint Mary and Saint Ebram church

2- Attack on Saint Mina church in Abu Hilal area in Menya. Front gates, and service building in the church were burned

3- the evangelical church in Gad ElSayed area - burned

4- Amir Tadros church at AlGeish street - burned completely 

5- Khalas AlNefous church - burned

6- Saint Joseph church and school - burned

7- attack against Saint Moses church in Abu Hilal area with molotov cocktails

8- Saint John church - Al Souq street

9-Saint Mary church attacked and crosses were taken off the gates and burned on the street

10- Jesuitte community building of the Catholic church - burned

11- Coptic High school - burned

12- Soldiers of Christ children orphanages burned and children taken somewhere else

13- the evangelical church in abu Hilal area - burned

14- Baptist church in Bani Mazar - burned

15- a number of shops and businesses owned by Copts looted and burned

16- A boat owned by the evangelical church attacked

17- Christians Youth Center (AlWady) attacked and burned

ASSUIT:

1-  Saint John the Baptist, Abnob village – burned

2- the Adventists church in yosri ragheb street, assiut village - burned

3-The Apostolic church in kolta st., assiut village – burned

4- st. Georges church in kolta st., assiut village - burned

5-assault with stones on the angel church, el nemis st.

6- Coptic Orthodox Diocese in Abu teeg village – siege

7-assault and burning of houses and properties of copts in Kolta and el Gmhoreya streets

8-burning of the altar of saint Therese church

 

ALFAYOUM:

1-The Virgin church in youssef el sedik center – burned

2-Prince Tadros church, el manzala village, youssef el sedik center – burned

3- Saint Demyana church, el zerbi village, Tamia center – burned

4-The evangelical church, , el zerbi village, Tamia center – burned and looted

5- (Friends of the Holy Book) association – burned

 

ALGIZA:

1-Michael the Angel church in kerdasa – burned

2-The archbishopric of Atfih, deir karm el  rosol – stormed and looted

3- the Two Martyrs church in soul village in Atfih – siege

3-Saint Mary the Virgin church in Alsaf center – burned

 

SUEZ:

1-The old catholic Greek church in baradees st. – burned

2- the good shepherd church and school – stormed and buned

3- the Franciscan school – burned

 

SUHAJ:

-     saint George church in 23rd of July st. – burned

LUXOR:

-Shops and businesses owned by Copts were looted and burned

BENI SUEIF:

1- Catholic nuns school burned and looted

2- Saint Georges church - AlWasta area was attacked with rocks

 

THe Union also recorded a number of minor attacks against other churches:

Jesuit church - Menya - attempted break in, Gates cross put down and destroyed

Saint Mary church - AlJazareen area - Menya - attempted break in and siege

Saint Mary church - Hod 10 area - Qena - siege and attempted break in

Coptic church atfih - attempted break in

Saint Joseph school - menya - attempted burn and break in

Saint Georges - Bakos, Alexandria - shot at

Saint Maximus - street 45, Alex - rocks throwing

Malawy area Coptic church - shot at, attack with molotv cocktails

Coptic church in Dir MAwass - shot at - rock throwing - molotov cocktails

Saint John baptist church - rock throwing

Saint Mary - Kafr Abdu area, October 6th city - shot at

AlKarma monastery - Atfeeh - shot at, molotv cocktails

Saint Georges, Beni Sueif - shot at, rock throwing
