A message to the members of the European Union

Your Excellency,

We are addressing you today in connection to the meeting of the members of the European Union on Egypt that will take place on Monday, 19 August 2013.

We, the people of Egypt, are highly disappointed by the position of the European Union, represented by its High Representative Mrs Ashton, and the reactions since her Excellency’s visit to Egypt, as well as the individual stand of some of the Union's countries like England and France, calling for a Security Council session to discuss Egypt, while Denmark declares holding of aid to Egypt.

We regret to inform you that your reading of the situation in Egypt is highly affected by your own interest in the Region, as well as your failed bet on the Moslem Brotherhood as an ally in the Middle East. The History shows with evidence who has nourished this group since early 1900 and for which purpose. The Egyptian people have chosen liberty and real democracy and have taken to the streets on 30 June and again on 26 July 2013 to confirm their earlier decision.

We, all Egyptians, Christians and Moslems, declare that we stand by our army and police forces in their efforts to eradicate terrorism represented in the Moslem Brotherhood armed faction, and all terrorist groups that sprout from it during the late decades. We would also like to advise you not to use the current plight of the Copts in Egypt as a means of any kind of intervention or sanctions against Egypt. Colonial powers have tried to use this card many times and they always failed. Copts will never accept using them as a pretext for any kind of measure to be taken against Egypt.

We finally hope that the outcome of the meeting of this Monday would support Egypt’s current interim government in its action against terrorism. Your support to the Egyptian people in their fight for freedom and justice will always be remembered.

Yours sincerely,
