Copts priest demands compensation and protection

Father Youannas Shawki, priest of St. Abram monastery in Dir Mowas, Minya, said 400 Coptic Christians celebrated mass today in the burned and looted monastery under the protection of Muslim neighbors.

He said that there has been no restoration and renovation yet for the monastery by the government or the Armed Forces.

“Mobs have looted doors, windows, power cables, marble, 13 computers and every thing they could get causing great damage and estimated losses of 1.2 million dollars.”

“They have burned historical icons as well as the whole monastery. They burned the cemetery as well after crushing the bones of the dead bodies!”

The priest demanded the police and Armed Forces to protect the Copts in the village as thugs of the Muslim Brotherhood are forcing the Coptic Christians to pay tribute and royalties, or else they get their houses damaged and looted.
