Muslim Brotherhood members set fire to the administrative security room located next to Cairo University’s main gate on Tuesday during clashes.
Students hurled Molotov cocktails at the room which caused the fire.
Brotherhood students ended their protest in front of the Cairo University’s Faculty of Sciences. Clashes stopped and traffic resumed on Nahda Street and others surrounding the university.
Alexandria security services fired teargas canisters at Brotherhood students during an attempt to march from the Faculty of Engineering to Abu Qeer Street.
Other students protested on Tuesday against the verdict given to student Abdel Rahman Saeed who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for involvement in the Sidi Gaber clashes. Meanwhile, students clashed with troops stationed around the Faculty of Engineering, which urged security to use teargas.
Once police intervened, students returned to the faculty. However, troops stayed outside the faculty to prevent marches from leaving.
In other news, Azhar University decided to evacuate its dormitories beginning Thursday.
The university spokesperson Ahmed Zarei deeply condemned the 'terrorist' incidents which took place early on Tuesday which left three killed and eight injured, adding that such actions will not prevent the university from carrying out end of year exams.
