Christian leaders in Egypt have sent the nation’s government a draft of legislation on church construction, according to a Fides news agency report.
Church construction has been subject to hostile regulations-- some of which date from Ottoman times, others from 1934-- and to the whim of local authorities. The government of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who assumed office in June, has signaled an openness to regulations that are more favorable to Christians.
