Bomb explodes near Cairo University, no injuries

The bomb was thrown at security personnel guarding the gate at the Faculty of Dentistry from an unknown vehicle, according to state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.
 
The Ministry of Interior said that police forces and explosive experts are currently surveying the area, to make sure no further explosive devices have been planted.
 
The prosecution team examined the scene and is expected to start an investigation using tapes from security cameras of the Mohamed Ali museum, which lies near the faculty’s entrance. Prosecutors will also interrogate eyewitnesses and the security personnel guarding the nearby entrance point.
 
The incident comes after protests spread across university campuses nationwide, partly in reaction to new security measures, student arrests, and the deployment of riot police and private security personnel.
 
On 6 November, four people, including one policeman, were killed and eight were injured when a train crashed after a bomb explosion in Menufiya.
 
Last month, a bomb exploded in the vicinity of Cairo University, injuring six policemen and four civilians.
 
Small bomb explosions have become a frequent occurrence over the past several months in Egypt.
