Churches convene over personal status law
Egyptian church representatives will convene on Monday at the Coptic Cathedral in Abbassiya to draft its notes on the personal status law, which currently does not allow Egypt's Coptic Christians to legally divorce and remarry.

A source from church told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the meeting came upon a call from the Orthodox Church. He revealed consensus among the three churches to reject terms of civil marriage laws.

The source added that Egypt's Constitution grants Christians the right to stick to their own religious bylaws when it comes to the personal status and selection of religious leaders.

Meanwhile, Romany Michael, lawyer, submitted memorandum to Pope Tawadros II, Egypt’s Copts leader, including a proposal to form a committee from the clerical council priests to work under title of ‘experts of the Orthodox Church's Clerical Council’.
