CAIRO- Egyptian intellectuals and fans will Monday evening stage a protest in Cairo in support of Lebanese diva Fayrouz against a recent court injunction. They will gather for a show of solidarity with Fayrouz, 75, at el-Sawi Cultural Centre in Zamalek, according to organisers. A similar protest is planned in Beirut on Monday.
Earlier this month, a two-year lawsuit filed by heirs of Mansour al-Rahbani, who composed songs and musical plays in which Fayrouz played the lead roles, culminated in a ruling stopping her from reprising a musical show at a Beirut theatre.
The claimants also requested that Fayrouz, the Arab world's most popular living singer, be prohibited from presenting 25 other musicals composed by al-Rahbani without prior arrangement with them over royalties.
