Stoke City raise bid to sign Ahly's rising star Sobhi

English Premier League side Stoke City have upped their bid to sign Ahly's prodigy Ramadan Sobhi, the teenager's agent Nader Shawky said on Sunday.

Earlier in June, Stoke tabled an offer to sign the 19-year-old who has played a key role in helping Ahly to a 38th Egyptian Premier League title this season.

"Stoke City tabled a new offer to sign Sobhi," Shawky told Egyptian radio station Mega FM.

"They offered 4 million Euros plus one million that will be paid based on his appearances with the club," he added.

Sobhi, who can operate as a winger or playmaker, came under the spotlight this season after outstanding performances with the Cairo giants and the Egyptian national team.

He has been key in settling many matches in Ahly's favour thanks to his skills and physique, which have made him a darling of the fans.

Sobhi, who came through the youth ranks of Ahly, made his debut with the Reds at only 17 years of age. He scored five goals with the club in the domestic league this season.

Stoke City finished ninth in the Premier League table last season with 51 points.

Ahly eye 7 or 8 million Euros

On Friday, Ahly were crowned Egyptian champions for the ninth time in 10 seasons following a 2-1 victory over Ismaily.

Both Ahly coach Martin Jol and chairman Mahmoud Taher heaped praise on Sobhi following the league triumph.

"The club has received three offers for Ramadan. Two from the English Premier League and one from Italy's Serie A," Taher told ONTV channel

"The technical staff headed by Martin Jol will determine the player's future. We won't stand against his future but the offer should be appropriate for both the club and the player.

"Jol told me that Ramadan's estimated price is 7-8 million Euros and he really deserves that. We haven't received such an offer yet," the chairman added.

Shawky, Sobhi's agent, is trying to coax Ahly into offloading Sobhi in the close season. He said the club can get further benefits by inserting contract clauses that would give them more money in any future sale.
