The general secretariat of the Tagammu Party voted yesterday to expel party leader Abul Ezz el-Hariri. The decision was approved with a majority of 50 members, with eight others voting against the resolution, and two members abstaining.
The party's central committee, which met in early October, decided to submit the decision to the secretariat to discuss and vote on the issue.
Commenting on the decision, el-Hariri said the vote breaches the regulations of the party, as the central committee referred the decision to the secretariat without discussing it. He added that the committee does not have the right to ask the secretariat to issue decisions, and that the ruling must be submitted to the committee again for approval during the next meeting.
"I delivered a request to the party demanding that Party Chief Refaat el-Said, Secretary General Sayed Abdel Eal, and Spokesman Nabil Zaky be sent to the disciplinary committee for deceiving the central committee and for submitting the decision to the secretariat in violation of the regulations."
