Egypt's handball team are out of the Olympics after a 31-25 loss on Monday to Germany in their final game of the preliminary round.
After their draw with hosts Brazil on Saturday, the Pharaohs had no choice but to beat European Champions Germany in order to keep their hopes of reaching the quarters alive.
Egypt made a slow start of the game, ending the first half three goals down (15-12).
They tried to close gap in the second half but struggled against Germany who extended their lead into six goals.
Following Monday's loss Egypt are fifth in group B with 3 points, behind joint leaders Germany and Slovenia on 8 points, Brazil on 5 and Poland on 4.
The top four teams advance into the quarter-finals.
