Ahly's struggling goalkeeper Ekramy optimistic over El-Badry's return

Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy has expressed pleasure at the return of coach Hossam El-Badry, saying fans should be optimistic as El-Badry won many trophies with the team.

"I am optimistic over El-Badry's return to the team. The fans also have to be happy as he has a brilliant history with the team," Ekramy told the club's official website.

The 56-year-old coach will lead Ahly for a third stint, despite an acrimonious departure in 2013, after Egypt’s most successful club named him manager in August in an attempt to arrest their stunning decline.

"I ask fans to support him in his mission as he is the man of the moment and players are ready to back him to achieve the target," the Egyptian goalkeeper added.

Ekramy had been snubbed from the starting squad for several games by Ahly’s former Dutch coach Martin Jol, who left the team in August after losing to rivals Zamalek as well as failing to reach the CAF Champions League semifinals.

Jol had blamed Ekramy for the team’s detrimental 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas in the second round of the African Champions League group stage.
