Congo players will not focus solely on Egypt's Salah: Coach Lechantre

Congo's Pierre Lechantre says his players will not be solely concentrating on AS Roma star Mohamed Salah when the team meets Egypt on Sunday.

Congo will host the Pharaohs in the Group E opener of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

"I told my players that they will face a world-class player who plays at a very high speed. We know his capabilities and we are working on that issue," Lechantre said in a press conference on Friday.

"Salah is one of the best players in Europe, but we will not concentrate only on him. Our team has great potential that will appear in the match," the coach said.

"We enjoy a full squad and all the players are ready for the match. We will play with the same strategy that we deployed against Guinea-Bissau [in the 2017 African Cup qualifiers]. We may only make two or three changes in our positions.

"We watched Egypt's games against Tanzania and South Africa and they are not the same team that seemed the best in Africa 10 years ago," the Frenchman added.

In June, World-Cup-hungry Egypt were drawn in a tight group at the qualifiers' final round alongside Ghana, Congo and Uganda.

Seven-time African champions Egypt have made only two World Cup appearances in their history, both in Italy in 1934 and 1990.
