Egypt call up Ahly's Soliman for Ghana clash to replace injured winger Fathi

Ahly's in-form attacking midfielder Walid Soliman has been called up to join Egypt's squad for a vital World Cup qualifier at home to Ghana on 13 November after Zamalek winger Mostafa Fathi picked up an injury.

"Fathi will not be able to feature against Ghana because of his injury. He was excluded from the squad and replaced with Walid Soliman," Egypt's national team director Ihab Leheta said late on Thursday.
Egypt coach Hector Cuper called up 23 players for the team's crucial game against Ghana in Group E of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, including Mostafa Fathi who later withdrew after hurting his knee in a training session with Cairo club Zamalek.

The Pharaohs host Ghana at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on 13 November.

Egypt have made a good start to their qualifying campaign with an away victory against Congo, while Ghana were held to a disappointing goalless draw at home by minnows Uganda.

The seven-time African champions lead the group with three points, two ahead of second-placed Ghana.

Egypt have made only two World Cup appearances, both in Italy in 1934 and 1990.
