Egyptian Museum to open at night twice a week

Antiquities Minister Khaled Anany announced that the Egyptian Museum would be open to public at night twice a week to promote tourism.

In a conference for Akhbar al-Youm newspaper on Monday, Anany referred to the Antiquities Ministry as the "joker of cultural tourism in Egypt"; indicating that the ministry's revenues depend mainly on cultural tourism.

A new system has been introduced that would increase the rate of visits to museums and touristic sites, especially in Luxor. Closed areas have been opened to public such as the tomb's of Nefertari and Seti the First. The Islamic Art Museum will be opened in few weeks, said the minister.

In addition, the Ministry is providing facilities and reduced prices to film producers who use Egyptian touristic sites. He said that Egyptians pay LE50,000 a month while foreigners pay LE150,000.

Anany mentioned that the ministry has also contracted with a new company for cleaning service at the Giza Pyramids area.

The Minister said the Grand Museum would be inaugurated in one year.
