Tunisia to play Egypt in Friendly ahead of African Cup of Nations

The Tunisian national team has agreed to play Egypt in a friendly on 8 January as they hold their training camp in Egypt ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

"The Federation confirmed to their Egyptian counterpart their agreement but we are just negotiating procedures," the Tunisian Football Federation spokesman Kais Reguez confirmed to Egyptian media on Tuesday.

The most prestigious African tournament is scheduled to be held in Gabon between 14 January and 5 February.

Tunisia secured their place in the Africa Cup of Nations after hammering Liberia 4-1 at home to top the standings of Group A of the qualifiers with 13 points, two ahead of Togo.

After the draw held last month, Tunisia will compete in Group B of the finals alongside Algeria, Senegal and Zimbabwe, while Egypt are in Group D beside Ghana, Mali and Uganda.

In Group A, hosts Gabon is to compete with Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Guinea Bissau, while Group C combines Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Morocco and Togo.

Egypt, the record holders with seven titles, made it to the finals after three absences since 2010, topping a three-team qualifying group featuring Nigeria and Tanzania, with Argentinean coach Hector Cuper fulfilling his first task at the helm.
