Zamaleks hopes in CAF Champions League still alive despite USM Alger defeat

Zamalek coach Augusto Inacio believes that his team s hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League quarterfinals are still alive despite the shock 2-0 loss to USM Alger in the fourth round of the group stage games in Algiers on Thursday.

Late goals on both sides of the interval from Reda Bellahcene and Abderrahmane Meziane condemned Zamalek to their first defeat of their group stage campaign, slipping to the third spot of Group B after initially entering the game on top.

"We played a difficult game against an organised and strong team, and lost chances to score," Inacio said at the post game press conference.

Algerian giants USM Alger are now at the summit of the table with seven points, two ahead of the third-placed Cairo side.

"Zamalek s hopes of reaching the next round in the CAF Champions League are still alive. We need to beat Caps United and Ahly Tripoli in the coming games," the Zamalek coach added.
"We will work in the coming days to resolve the problem of wasting chances to score."
The Cairo giants will face Caps United of Zimbabwe – who are at the tail of the group with 3 points – away from home in the 5th round of the continental tournament group stage two week later.
