Egyptian striker Ahmed Kouka was on target in the opening day of the Portuguese league but Sporting Braga slumped to a 3-1 loss to Benfica on Wednesday.
Benfica led 2-0 but Kouka reduced the arrears in superb fashion two minutes before the break.
He caught his marker napping to run onto a deft through pass and lift the ball over the keeper from a tight angle.
Kouka thought he had equalized in the second half when he converted a floated cross from the left but his goal was correctly ruled out for offside. Eduardo Salvio then scored to restore Benfica s two-goal advantage.
The 24-year-old scored four goals and provided five assists in all competitions for Braga last season but his season ended in April when he suffered a groin injury.
Kouka is likely to be part of Egypt s squad for the vital World Cup qualifier away to Uganda on 31 August.
