Ahly midfielder Hossam Ashour is suffering a knee injury that could sideline him during Saturday s away African Champions League semifinal against Tunisia s Etoile du Sahel.
"Ashour will undergo medical scans and examination to determine the seriousness of his knee injury," the Cairo giants doctor, Khaled Mahmoud, told the club s official website on Thursday.
"He will have a two-day rehabilitation programme in an attempt to make him ready for the Saturday match," the doctor added.
The 31-year-old is coach Hossam El-Badry s first choice in central defensive midfield because of his tight positioning and accurate passes.
Since he was promoted from the youth team, the experienced player has helped Ahly to win a series of trophies, including five Champions League wins, one Confederation Cup and five African Super Cups, as well as 10 Egyptian league wins, three Cups, and eight Super Cups.
Ahly, who are bidding for their first Champions League title since 2013, booked a last-four berth at the expense of Tunisian side Esperance, beating them 4-3 on aggregate.
