Support of fans vital to Ahlys Champions League hopes, says coach

Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has expressed confidence in the team reaching the African Champions League final, requesting the support of fans in the Sunday clash.

"I am sure fan support on Sunday will ease our mission to snatch the qualifying ticket," the 57-year-old tactician told his club s official website.

Ahly will host tough Tunisian opponents Etoile du Sahel at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday in the second leg of the continental competition s semifinal.

"The attendance of 50,000 fans – approved by security authorities – will definitely be a positive boost for the team to overcome the loss," he added.

The Egyptians, who lost 2-1 away two weeks ago, have played two Egyptian Premier League games this week, defeating Ittihad 2-0 on Thursday and Ragaa 4-1 on Monday.

"The Ittihad and Ragaa games were very good preparation for the Sunday game. I hope that the referee will be fair in his decisions," he concluded.

Ahly are eyeing a record-extending ninth title and their first since 2013.

They met Etoile in the Champions League final in 2005 and 2007. Ahly prevailed with a comprehensive 3-0 aggregate win in 2005, but Etoile had the upper hand two years later, securing a 3-1 victory in Cairo after the first leg ended goalless.
