Abba Raphael, secretary of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church, announced on Saturday the death of Abba Boqtor, Bishop of the New Valley, as he was being treated in the United States of America.
Bishop Boqtor was ordained general bishop of the New Valley in 2015 and was enthroned in 2016.
He was born in 1953 in Luxor and was called Samaan Fakhri Samaan, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Minya University in 1976 and was ordained a monk in 1980 in the monastery of Muharraq in Assiut. He served in the churches of the New Valley and Oases since 1998.
