Despite the superb performance of Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo during this week s Champion League game, Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah trounced the Portuguese star to win the UEFA player of the week in a live poll on the UEFA official website.
The 25-year-old winger won 57 percent of the votes, after scoring and assisting in a goal as well as producing a superb performance in Liverpool s 3-0 win over English Premier League leaders Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Salah snatched a place on the four-man shortlist for the prize, alongside Gerard Pique (Barcelona), James Rodriguez (Bayern Munich) and Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, a five-time FIFA Ballon d Or winner, scored twice during the 3-0 win over Juventus, and won 35 percent of the votes in the player of the week poll, while Rodriguez got 5 percent and Pique 4 percent.
It s Salah s third time to win the weekly poll so far this season.
The Egyptian winger has taken the Premier league by storm since joining Liverpool from Roma last summer, scoring 29 league goals so far. He has scored seven goals with Liverpool in 9 appearances in the UEFA Champions League this season.
