Egypts World Cup player profiles: Mahmoud Trezeguet, the unsung hero

As Egypt reached their first World Cup in 28 years, all the credit went to Mohamed Salah who converted a last-gasp penalty against Congo to secure the team s passage with a dramatic 2-1 win. However Mahmoud  Trezeguet  Hassan, the player who won the penalty, was an unsung hero.

Trezeguet is one of the pillars of Egypt s team. He is not the sort of wingers who raise eyebrows with catchy feints to carve out openings, but the midfield workhorse is favoured by Argentinean coach Hector Cuper due to his impressive work rate.

Hassan, nicknamed Trezeguet after the former France striker, is Cuper s first-choice as a left winger despite the presence of Ramadan Sobhi, Stoke City s talented winger.

The 23-year-old was one of Egypt s best performers at the 2017 African Nations Cup and the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Trezeguet, who spent last season on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa from Belgian giants Anderlecht, enjoyed a debut season to remember in Turkey, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

His impressive displays have reportedly caught the eyes of several Premier League sides as well as Turkish giants Galatasaray, with their famous coach Fatih Terim publicly expressing an interest in signing him.
