Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has made fun of Sergio Ramos claims that he could have continued playing after injuring his shoulder in a challenge from Ramos at the UEFA Champions Legue final, insisting that leaving the match was the worst moment of his career.
"[Laughs] My comment is that it s always okay when the one who made you cry first, then makes you laugh. Maybe he could also tell me if I m going to be ready for the World Cup," Salah said in an interview with Marca published on Friday.
A challenge from Real Madrid skipper Ramos left the Liverpool star with an injured shoulder, and he was forced off before half time in the Kiev match on 26 May.
Ramos said after the injury that Salah could have continued the game if he had had an injection.
“Yes it was,” Salah said when he was asked that if leaving the pitch was the worst moment of his career.
Asked if he thinks the fall with Ramos was normal, the Pharaohs star said: “I don t know. Maybe?”
Ramos said days ago: "I see the play well, he grabs me first by the arm and I fall to the other side, in fact he injures the other arm.”
Salah replied to that explanation saying: "It s funny."
"He sent me a message, but I never told him it was okay," added the former Chelsea and AS Roma player.
Medical scans revealed that Salah would be sidelined for three weeks at least, but the player, who has since completed a rehabilitation programme in Spain, is hopeful he will make Egypt s World Cup opener against Uruguay on 16 June.
"Now I m better. I hope to play the first game against Uruguay, but that will depend on how I feel when it approaches," said Salah, who arrived in Cairo on Thursday night to join his teammates, who will head to Russia on Sunday.
"I think we have a great team and a great coach; we want to qualify for the next round and do well.
"The pressure was to qualify for the World Cup. Of course, someone can now say okay, we ve qualified that s it . But for me it s not like that, we want to make history, achieve something different.
“In my head the pressure is to achieve something different from what we have done. Not just going there, three games and thank you very much. That doesn t go through my head,” he said.
The seven-time African champions will kick off their first World Cup campaign since 2000 with the 16 June match against Uruguay, and will then face hosts Russia on 19 June.
Their final Group A match will be against Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
