Mortada Mansour suspension based on regulations, not personal: CAF President

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmed Ahmed assured on Sunday that the suspension of Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour was reached in accordance with the regulations of the confederation and was not based on any other factors.

On Saturday, CAF has suspended Mansour for one year and fined him $40,000 for comments he made against CAF officials.

"I didn t even notice the sanction against Mortada as I was busy with the CAF general assembly," Ahmed told reporters on Sunday during the general assembly held in the Egyptian resort town Sharm el-Sheikh.

"We have specialised committees that make decision without any interference from anyone," he said, adding that even his own country, Madagascar, was suspended for three months by the CAF.

Last week, Mansour verbally attacked Ahmed and CAF Secretary-General Amr Fahmy for not imposing punishments on Ahly club over its fans hurling insults at the head of Saudi Arabia s General Sports Authority Turki Al-Sheikh during a Champions league match.

"We don t make any decisions based personal desire, all our decisions depend on regulations," the CAF president said.

CAF has also hit Ahly with a two-match ban on fan attendance and a $20,000 fine over the jeering by spectators against Al-Sheikh.
