Liverpool’s Salah cleared of simulation charges against Newcastle

Liverpool s talisman Mohamed Salah will be available to the team in the upcoming season-defining games against Arsenal and Manchester City after he was cleared of diving charges in the game against Newcastle.

Salah fell to the ground after minimal contact with Newcastle defender Paul Dummett, winning a penalty from which he scored the second in Liverpool s 4-0 victory at Anfield on Wednesday.

"The soft penalty in the game made the difference, we were in the game at 1-0 at half-time, but when we conceded the second goal it was more difficult for us to react against a very good team,” Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez commented on the controversial penalty.

After reviewing the incident footage, the FA decided to take no action against the Egypt international, concluding that the incident did not fit the definition of deception of a match official.

If he had been charged Salah would have faced a two-match ban, meaning Liverpool would have missed their number one star for two important games in a campaign that may see the Reds win their first title in the Premier League era.

Liverpool are currently six points clear of Tottenham at the top of the standings and seven ahead of Manchester City who slipped to the third position after tasting their second straight defeat against Leicester City at King Power on Wednesday.
