A human rights organization condemns the establishment of security teams affiliated to political parties considering it a dangerous trend that threatens the political life

Arabic Foundation to support the civil society and human rights, expressed its concerns about the news published on “Eltahrir” Independent newspaper on March 5, 2012, as well as the website of “El Dostour” newspaper, that a group of leaders of Freedom and Justice party (FJP) held a lengthy meeting two days ago with the leaders of the Ministry of Interiors to agree on the mechanisms of developing a plan to restore security and put an end to issues of theft on the Egyptian streets. (According to the information that FJP asked "Ministry of Interiors" to open the door before training a group of youth from the group as well as of the youth revolution to form teams of security of civilians to help the police to maintain security. In few days, FJP is going to uncover the deal. The information added that Alnour Party has announced, two days ago, forming groups of its members to maintain security under the command of some leaders of the Ministry of Interiors trying to legalize the participation of people in maintaining the security).

The Arab Association said that this is so dangerous that maintaining security is a task must be carried out by the Ministry of the Interiors, which is a part of the executive authority which is supposed to be a neutral role which does not distinguish between citizens according to their views. Assigning such mission to a militia of a political party, can be used in special political purposes. If the formation of the popular committees of citizens in the various governorates of Egypt during the revolution of January 25th, which came after the shameful withdrawal of the security forces in the Egyptian streets was justified, It was initiatives of individuals and citizens to protect themselves, their families, money and homes. But when this is sought by: political parties from one hand, with religious references on the other, this becomes very dangerous as these military militias may work against other parties and currents. This could lead other parties to form other militias for the protection of its members (Also to participate in the restoration of security!) which can lead to a civil war.
The first fruit of this appeared when the members of the Muslim Brotherhood and members of FJP during the first session of the People’s Assembly stood against demonstrations of coalitions of revolution youth. The organization believes there is a lack of security which is deliberate and sustained in many cases, and in most Egyptian governorates, showing the failure of protecting the citizens, which many believe it comes as punishment of some security leaders for revolting against the former regime, but the solution to this problem must be in other ways, none of them is militia of parties, but through: Restructuring of the Ministry of Interiors, and the reform of the security services that it may keep people safe, as well as the punishment of those who fail to do their tasks in keeping people safe.
Sharif Hilali, lawyer and Executive Director of the organization, talked about the threat of this trend, which also appeared a few days ago when they talked about a quota for FJP in recruitment in the police academy. He stressed that the security institutions must stay away from the dominance or presence of political trends which can be used to support these institutions and political interests.
