Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, vice chief of the Evangelical church, said that selecting the next Pope will be both by a democratic process of election and faith by drawing the altar lot. He said that the next pope should have a strong personality, like the Pope Shenouda, as well as the theological and spiritual strength, as the presence of a strong leadership makes it easier to deal with. This was during his interview with Lamies al-Hadidi on CBC satellite channel. He added that church should care about politics, but not to work in politics, and one of the advantages of January 25th Revolution is that Christians started to work in politics away of churches.

At the same interview, Youssef Sedhom, head-in-chief of Watani newspaper, said that ability of Pope Shenouda to communicate with the political leadership should be found in the next Pope too.
Christians should engage in governmental institutions as Egyptian citizens. They should not be represented by church but by themselves as true citizens. Church is a spiritual and national institution, but it does not represent the Copts politically.
