Security sources expected Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to remain in his position after President-elect Mohamed Morsy met on Tuesday with the ministry’s senior officials at the Police Academy.
Al-Masry Al-Youm was informed that the meeting, which lasted for almost an hour and was attended by 12 of the minister’s deputies, tackled several security issues like security in Sinai and those who escaped prisons, especially after canceling the emergency law.
The president-elect’s meeting with the minister’s deputies was considered a motivation for security services as well as the minister to achieve security, sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm, expecting the minister to remain in his post.
An interior ministry statement said the president-elect, the minister and his deputies reviewed security plans during the coming period and called on them to reassure all the police personnel that the new president will be for all Egyptians and that police apparatus should be strong enough to fight crime.
Morsy rejected use of the phrase “purging the ministry” and said that the police apparatus is a national one that should be a pillar of the country, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. Following the meeting, the minister and his deputies inspected security procedures at the industrial zone on the Suez road.
“I came today to meet with the honorable policemen who stay up to preserve security and restore stability, those who had roles in securing all phases of elections whether parliamentary or presidential. We should open a new chapter, its headline should be retrieving security and stability back to street,” Morsy said.
Morsy also called on the minister’s deputies to reassure the police apparatus that the new president will not take revenge against them, considering it a national apparatus that includes honorable people, Al-Masry Al-Youm added.
