Supreme Council of Culture calls on Morsi to respect freedom of thought

A statement released by the Supreme Council of Culture on Sunday declares its respect for the democratic transition in Egypt, while demanding that newly elected President Mohamed Morsi to respect the country's institutions, especially cultural ones.

The statement adds that no political party should be allowed to infiltrate these institutions and underlines the right to freedom of expression, creativity and scientific research referred to in the Azhar Document.

The Supreme Council of Culture also expressed its wish to participate in the writing of the new constitution and declared that it would hold regular meetings to discuss its role within the framework of the constitution.
