President Morsi returns to Egypt after a quick visit to Saudi Arabia

President Mohamed Morsi returned to Cairo on Thursday afternoon after a visit to Saudi Arabia – the first he has undertaken to a foreign country after taking office. The newly elected president held talks with King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman ibn Abdel-Aziz regarding the future of Egyptian-Saudi relations and how to endorse economic and investment projects between the two countries.

Talks also covered the conditions of Egyptians in Saudi Arabia. According to Yasser Ali, the official spokesperson, Morsi received a comprehensive file from Saudi officials on Egyptian detainees.

Together with a delegation of Egyptian officials including the head of intelligence Mourad Mowafi, Morsi and his wife performed a quick ‘umrah (or mini pilgrimage) while there.

At the Egyptian consulate in Jeddah, Morsi met with members of the Egyptian community in Saudi Arabia and to discuss the conditions of their life.
