Kefaya questions Gamal Mubarak's wealth

Coordinator of the pro-democracy Kefaya movement Abdel Halim Kandil has challenged recent assertions by his predecessor, George Isaac, that the movement would not raise questions about the financial assets of Gamal Mubarak, the son of President Hosni Mubarak and assistant secretary-general of the ruling National Democratic Party.

Kandil asserted to Al-Masry Al-Youm that he had announced on 13 September -- and in the presence of Isaac -- that the movement's legal committee was currently discussing appropriate legal channels in this regard.

"What Isaac said is rubbish," Kandil said. "Anyone who is opposed to investigating Gamal Mubarak's financial position must inevitably raise suspicion."

Isaac, however, has denied making the statement. "I never said anything of the sort," he said. "I will abide by any resolution taken by the coordination committee."
