An Egyptian criminal court on Tuesday ordered the release of Mubarak-era tourism minister Zuhair Garana pending his retrial on corruption charges.
Garana was sentenced to three years in prison in 2011 for issuing licenses to tourism companies despite being stripped of the authority to do so.
In a separate case, Garana was sentenced to five years in prison for corruption and violating auction laws regarding the purchase of land in the Red Sea resort of Ain Sokhna.
Garana appealed both verdicts and in February a court ordered his retrial.
Garana has exceeded the 180 days somebody can spend in detention pending trial under Egyptian law.
