Parliament’s religious committee discusses the churches building law

Parliamentary religious committee started its meeting to discuss the churches building law on Monday, said the committee’s chairman Osama Al-Abd.

Abd stressed, in a press statement, that Islam is the religion of moderation that does not prevent the followers of other faiths to build their worship places or to exercise their rituals.

The country has witnessed critical conditions during the coming period, said the Egyptian parliamentarian, due to the attempts aiming to fuel sectarian tensions in the country, while they will not achieve their goals.

The churches building law raised a state of controversy during the recent years, as many experts blamed the absence of such law for the sectarian incidents witnessed in the country. The law is scheduled to be discussed by the parliament during the current parliamentary round.

The chairman of religious committee added that they will draft a number of recommendations during the meeting to refer the draft law to the House of Representatives’ Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal to turn it into the other sub-committees for discussion.
